# Alibaba Raises $10.2 Billion in Record Hong Kong Share Sale to Fund AI Expansion

> Alibaba has raised about 10.2 billion dollars by selling new shares in Hong Kong, one of the largest such offerings the market has seen, with all of the proceeds earmarked for AI infrastructure. The move follows a quarter in which the company's capital spending surged roughly 75 percent to nearly 10 billion dollars, enough to push its free cash flow negative by about 6.6 billion. The numbers show a Chinese giant going all in. Alibaba is pouring money into full-stack AI, from chips and data centers up to the models and services running on them, and it expects the bet to break even within three years, possibly two. Turning cash flow negative to fund that build-out is a deliberate wager that capacity now translates to market position later. It also fits a wider pattern of tech giants outside the US racing to build sovereign AI capacity rather than depend on American providers, a trend with real weight for how the global AI market splits.
