# Alipay unveils full-stack agentic commerce platform at Hangzhou conference

> At its partner conference in Hangzhou, Alipay unveiled a platform meant to make the world of online commerce legible to AI agents. The pitch is that merchants can take their existing storefronts, product pages, and workflows and repackage them as skills an agent can actually use, rather than pages a human has to click through. The technical backbone is the Model Context Protocol, the emerging standard for connecting AI systems to outside tools and data. By building on MCP, Alipay is trying to close the gap between the mountains of commerce data it already sits on and the agents that increasingly want to shop, compare, and transact on a user's behalf. It is an early but telling move. Most agentic commerce so far has been demos and pilots, and here one of the largest payment platforms in China is laying down infrastructure for it at scale. If shopping agents do become normal, whoever owns the rails between them and merchants stands to matter enormously.
