# AlphaFold 3-Designed Molecules Enter Phase 1 Clinical Trials

> According to a new Nature report, drug candidates designed with AlphaFold 3-based pipelines have cleared Phase 1 clinical trials for the first time, a milestone that moves AI-driven drug design from promise to measurable clinical progress. Four molecules passed this initial human-safety stage, the first AI-designed candidates to get this far at scale. Much of the work traces back to Isomorphic Labs, the DeepMind spinout, which now runs 17 active programs across oncology, immunology and cardiovascular disease. The company credits its IsoDDE platform, released in February, with roughly doubling AlphaFold 3's accuracy on the hardest cases of predicting how a small molecule binds to its target, the step where a lot of computational drug design has historically fallen down. Phase 1 only tests whether a compound is safe in people, not whether it works, so the hard part is still ahead. But clearing it validates that structures dreamed up largely by software can survive contact with real biology, and it puts a long-hyped approach on a concrete timeline after an earlier slip from 2025.
