# AlphaGenome: AI for better understanding the genome

> Google DeepMind has introduced AlphaGenome, a model that reads long stretches of DNA, up to a million base pairs at once, and predicts how changes to that sequence ripple through gene regulation at single base-pair resolution. In benchmarking it outperformed existing external models on 22 of 24 sequence-prediction tasks, and it did so cheaply, needing only about four hours of computation and roughly half the resources of DeepMind's earlier Enformer system.
