# Anthropic warns infostealer malware is hijacking Claude sessions

> Anthropic has flagged a threat that has little to do with its models and everything to do with the machines people run them on. A family of infostealer malware, including Vidar, LummaC2, StealC, RedLine and Acreed on Windows plus Atomic Stealer on macOS, is lifting saved Claude login sessions straight off infected computers. Because attackers grab the session itself rather than a password, they sail past two-factor protections that normally stop credential theft, then quietly burn through victims' usage credits. The company says the compromise is not a flaw in Claude. Users picked up the malware by downloading tainted software elsewhere, and the stolen sessions simply happened to include their AI accounts alongside everything else. Anthropic is responding by signing out affected users, issuing refunds for drained credits, and advising people to change passwords, revoke active sessions, and scrub the malware from their systems. It is a useful reminder that as AI accounts pile up real value, they become just another target for the same commodity malware that has hunted banking and crypto logins for years.
