# EU Officially Enforces AI Act: Transparency Rules Go Live August 2

> The EU AI Act has moved from statute to enforcement. As of August 2, exactly two years after the law entered into force, the EU AI Office began policing a new wave of obligations, most visibly around transparency. Chatbots now have to tell you they are AI, deepfakes must be labeled, and AI-altered media needs machine-readable markings so downstream systems can flag it. The same date switched on duties for high-risk systems listed in the Act's Annex III, covering uses like hiring, credit and critical infrastructure.
