# Machine Learning Accelerates Discovery of New Room-Temperature Superconductors

> An international research team has used machine learning to fast-forward one of physics' slowest hunts: the search for better superconductors. Instead of testing candidates a few hundred at a time, the group trained models to pre-screen enormous numbers of material combinations, then zeroed in on two new superconductors, YRu3B2 and LuRu3B2. In both, electrons settle into flat energy bands within a kagome lattice, a geometric arrangement that appears to encourage superconductivity. The bigger story is the method. The researchers say ML now lets them process billions of possible materials where traditional trial and error could realistically handle only hundreds, turning a needle-in-a-haystack problem into something closer to a filter. The consortium is aiming for a room-temperature superconductor by 2033, a milestone that would rewrite the economics of power grids, magnets and transport by moving electricity with almost no loss. These two compounds are not that breakthrough yet, but they are proof the search itself has changed speed.
