# Meta's Custom AI Chips Begin Production in September

The design leans on a modular architecture, with Broadcom helping design it, TSMC manufacturing it, and Samsung and SanDisk supplying memory and storage. It builds on Meta's MTIA line, which the company already uses to train the ranking and recommendation systems behind its feeds. The scale of the surrounding spend is hard to overstate. Meta plans to lay out between $125 billion and $145 billion in capital expenditure this year, targeting about 7 gigawatts of compute and expecting to double that next year.
