# Nvidia Acquires Hugging Face for $12.9B

> Nvidia has agreed to buy Hugging Face, the community hub where much of the open AI world stores its work, in a deal valued at roughly 12.93 billion dollars. The structure splits into about 11.9 billion dollars for existing shareholders and another 1 billion in equity earmarked for keeping employees around. Hugging Face is not a small prize: it hosts around three million models, a million apps and half a million datasets, drawn on by an estimated 18 million developers. The obvious worry is neutrality. Hugging Face became the default because it stayed open to every framework and every chip, and Nvidia sells the chips most of those models run on. Chief executive Jensen Huang has publicly pledged to keep the platform open to all AI ecosystems, but developers will watch closely for any thumb on the scale. If it closes, expected in the first half of 2027, this becomes one of Nvidia's largest acquisitions yet, following its reported 20 billion dollar move for Groq. It cements a pattern: the company that already dominates AI hardware is now buying the places where AI software lives.
