# Stripe Launches Agentic Payments Infrastructure for AI Agent Commerce

> Stripe has shipped infrastructure that lets AI agents spend real money on their own. Launched July 2 with partner Cross River Bank, the system issues bank-grade single-use cards for autonomous agents, and Stripe says 160 million transactions have already cleared on the underlying x402 protocol. The pitch is that an agent booking travel or restocking inventory needs a controlled, auditable way to pay, not a human copying in a card number. Stripe is stacking related pieces around it. Its Billing product now meters AI-native usage, turning tokens, API calls and agent tasks into billable charges, and an Agentic Commerce Suite is rolling out to Wix, BigCommerce and WooCommerce so merchants can accept agent-driven purchases. The implications are worth sitting with. Once software can hold a payment credential and transact without a person in the loop, questions of fraud, spending limits and liability move from theory to production. Stripe getting there first means the plumbing for an agent economy is quietly being poured before most people have thought about the rules.
